Early Thanksgiving Celebration for a Special Crystal Coast Family

Just in time for the holidays, the Jarrett Bay Boatworks family is excited to hand the keys over for the Simmons Family’s new home built in memory of their co-worker and friend, Joy Gaskill, through the Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity program. A dedication ceremony at the home, located at 120 Old Mill Road Newport NC, will be held Friday, October 18th at 11:30 a.m.

A Jarrett Bay Boatworks fund was originated by Gaskill as a home construction campaign for a local family in need of adequate housing, and has been perpetuated in her memory by her co-workers, friends and family. What started as a company lunch fundraiser has blossomed into a community effort beyond expectations.

This past April marked the 5-year anniversary of the Crystal Coast community’s loss of Joy Gaskill, who was tragically killed in a car accident on the way to her daughter’s baby shower. Her untimely passing sparked a renewed push for her friends and family to complete the Habitat campaign that Joy made great strides in heading up.

“Joy Gaskill was more than just my best friend,” said Jarrett Bay President Randy Ramsey. “She was kind, generous, and had a strong desire to help anyone who was in need. She believed that those blessed with good fortune should use their resources as an opportunity to give back to their community and help make a positive change in others lives. I am humbled by the donation of time, physical labor and funding by the Jarrett Bay family, and ever thankful for this living memorial to Joy’s legacy of kindheartedness.”

A large crowd from Jarrett Bay is expected for the dedication. As the holiday season of giving nears, they encourage the Crystal Coast Community to join them at this celebration of caring, and remembering.
