8:12am, September 2, 2010 – Jarrett Bay Boatworks Service Yard – Beaufort, NC:
As of Wednesday evening we had hauled 97 boats in a little over two days. We are on target to run out of stands & complete haul outs this afternoon at 1-2pm
Hurricane Earl is starting its turn to the North/North West this morning. The high pressure ridge over the eastern US is now steering the Hurricane. Let us hope it will take the worst out to sea. We are under a Hurricane Watch presently. We still have the possibility of having some really bad weather. Earl is a CAT 4 Hurricane with 145 MPH winds.
Does anyone remember what Hugo did to SC and even inland as far as Charlotte, NC?
We will have a crew here tonight and will be checking all the stands for every boat in the yard as regularly as the wind allows. The worst problem we normally have in a Hurricane is the wind and rain in unison causes stands to become loosened. That is why we try to check them regularly. Antennas, curtains and any other item that is prone to wind damage should be removed or secured firmly. Outriggers on Sport Fish boats are easily damaged in high winds.
We will try to have staff back into the office Friday afternoon and on the yard to assess damages. We will call you if any major damage occurs. “Major” being anything other than cosmetic issues. We prefer that you come inspect your vessels as soon as safe to do so and roads are passable. Continue reading “Hurricane Earl Update 9/2″ »

8:22pm August 29, 2010 – Beaufort, NC:
The latest NOAA projection is predicting the west side of the possible track to skirt Cape Lookout. This is still a Cat 1 hurricane. There is a 5-10% probability of us receiving Hurricane Force winds. It does appear to have sped up. It is now to arrive somewhere off our coast Thursday afternoon.
This storm is still very unpredictable so we will advise caution. Better safe than sorry. We will be able to haul vessels Monday afternoon if any of you want to get a jump on hauling. Please contact Kendra at 252-728-2690 x232. Kendra will begin receiving calls for appointments at 9am Monday 30 August. 50 and 75 ton lifts will start at 1pm and be scheduled for every 30 minutes. The 200 ton lift is already busy Monday, but call anyway and we will do our best to start some 200 ton lifts if possible. If not, we will start the 200 ton lift at 0730 am Tuesday morning. The 43 foot Rybovich, Liberator, first came to Jarrett Bay Boatworks by way of Long Island, New York for an entire top-to-bottom refit and rebirth as the Maradel. This refit started with all new wiring and mechanicals including Cummins QSC540 8.3 liter diesel engines, 11.5 kw Onan Generator set and new fuel and water tanks.
Notable customizations included adding an anchor & rope locker, new fore-deck hatches, cutting in a bridge access hatch & creating an in-deck fish box in the cockpit. In regards to the hull, we added corner hawse pipes, took out all through-hulls, incorporated an engine room central collector drain box, Livos air vents & installed all new shafts & wheels.
The carpentry team set new teak decks, covering boards & built teak cockpit cabinets. The interior was completely rebuilt & Crystal Coast Interiors provided a soft goods package. A full bar and stools were added as well as a new sofa, veneer, whisper wall, counter tops, carpet & wallpaper. All interior varnish was stripped and the oak and ash redone with an elegant satin finish. The exterior teak varnish was stripped to the lumber and expertly refinished. The cockpit was fitted with a fighting chair & rocket launcher from Release Marine. Continue reading “Before & After: A Classic Rybovich Reborn” »

David,
I wanted to thank you for standing behind the CAT engine issues we had on the Horizon 74-612. Jarrett Bay and Gregory Poole CAT worked seamlessly to make this engine swap one of the most efficient I have ever seen. The owner has been around the boat for the whole time and was very impressed at the work done and especially the time frame that means he will be back sailing north tomorrow after only a week of down time.
Caterpillar is very fortunate to have two great teams at Gregory Poole and Jarrett Bay to support your product.

Vessel HVAC (heating ventilation and cooling) systems should have regular maintenance preformed. Here are some helpful tips to ensure proper operation and efficiency of your vessel.
- The return air filters should be cleaned or renewed as required monthly.
- Evaporator coil fins should be cleaned monthly
- It is recommended that the salt water side of the condensing unit should have a chemical flush every year for best results, but no longer than two years between cleaning.
- Sea strainer should be cleaned weekly
- Scale builds up on the interior walls of the condensing coils which reduces efficiency drastically. This condition causes the units to run longer and cycle more frequently thereby significantly reducing the life of the equipment
Contact the Service Department if you have any questions or for a quote to service you air conditioning system today.
