Mechanically, we were able to remedy some standard maintenance issues in her engine room and beyond, including upgrading wiring to ABYC standards, sound barrier installation and upgraded fire suppression. Our neighbors at Gregory Poole Marine Power also performed thorough engine inspections and we performed upgrades and re-positioning of a number of systems including exhaust, fuel system, batteries and chargers, and all water systems (raw, fresh and gray). We also performed a fuel polishing service, troubleshot some leaks in the oil and genset fuel systems, and rebuilt both upper and lower helm stations.

Structurally, we made hull modifications and fiberglass repairs for improved hull performance and repainted the entire exterior – the hull with John’s signature color blue.

Throughout the boat, we upgraded wiring and troubleshot a few areas like AC flow to specific cabins. Partners IMS American Electronics and Crystal Coast Interiors worked on new electronics & soft goods (upholstery) throughout the boat, respectively. Our partner Bausch American Towers installed an all new custom tower and hardtop.

Below the water line, we repaired several fiberglass issues and inspected the keel along with all running gear, including prop, shaft, rudder and all related seals and hardware, as well as the trim tab system. The props (and spares) were tested and adjusted to maximize engine performance after Gregory Poole’s tune-up. Bilge pumps and transducers were renewed and underwater lights installed on the transom.

In the cockpit, we retrofit the cabinetry and created a mezzanine area to include seating, a larger freezer area and reworked the air boxes & demister system. Our team installed an all new teak deck and covering boards, renewed rod holders, installed cockpit outlets for electric reels and repaired the transom door & anchor hatch lid.

Overall, this was one of our most thorough refits of another custom boat in recent years, and we greatly appreciated the opportunity to renew her. She’s a totally new boat, and we hope you have the time to check out some of the before and after photos to see for yourself.

We sincerely thank Susan and John for their trust, and giving us the opportunity to work on the Absolut Joy. We look forward to seeing her again soon, as she journeys between her two homes in Florida and Maryland, for many years to come.

To top it all off, the Absolut Joy and her owners are already in Costa Rica enjoying the sailfish season and showing off all of this hard work!

We wanted to pass on our appreciation for yet another positive Jarrett Bay service experience. This was our 3rd haul out at Jarrett Bay and we can truly say we have always had a positive experience. We have utilized the services of many boat yards over the years. Jarrett Bay ranks among the best of the best. When your vessel is hauled there is always a sense of concern as to its well being and security. Watching a 100 plus ton vessel being hauled is always nerve racking but the Jarrett Bay lift crew is so experienced that they make it look easy. Todd and Kendra promptly scheduled and handled all of the details as they have previously and made everything seamless and easy.

We also wanted to thank you for your extraordinary handling of the situation when we were travelling on the West Coast and our cell phones rang because the boats alarm and vessel monitoring system called telling us the power on the boat was off. This was very early on a Sunday morning. We called the main Jarrett Bay phone number to see if we could find out what had happened, leaving a message with the answering service. Within 5 minutes we received a return call from Jeff on his cell phone telling us he was on his way to check out the situation. Twenty minutes later we received a return call from Jeff advising us that there had been a temporary power outage that was now restored and he advised that he had gone on our boat and others and personally confirmed the power was restored, electrical systems were booted back up and refrigeration was working. We were extremely impressed by this degree of customer care and service. Experiences like these solidify relationships and we are very grateful.

All of the work that we have contracted with Jarrett Bay has been done in a superlative manner and the final pricing has always been as stated in the original work order estimate with no surprises. Everyone we have dealt with at the yard from labor thru top management have always been courteous, professional, and friendly down to the night security person who we have found keeps a very close watch on the yard.

We will always use Jarrett Bay and will recommend it to our boating friends. Thanks again for another successful haul out and service.

Earlier this week, the Jarrett Bay service yard was the site of an in-depth training session showcasing a great new hull blasting system, known as The Farrow System. 

Farrow System Explained:

The Farrow System is a patented method for removing surface coatings (removes oxidation, protective coatings, graffiti, and more).

The overall principal behind The Farrow System, is that it has been designed to not only be cost efficient, but environmentally friendly, and very effective on any fiberglass structure without damaging any prior gelcoats. Because of it’s delicate work rate, it’s also great for historic restoration projects, where it’s essential to keep the integrity of the original surface.

In comparison to other abrasive dry blasts, the Farrow System uses heat, combined with a low pressure, and a brilliantly designed nozzle that disperses mineral particles, reffered to as “missiles” which upon contact, burst into thousands of smaller particles, and work their way between the surface and the grime, for an effective and eco-friendly result.

The importance of fuel polishing:

From time to time micro organisms become present in fuel and tend to clog fuel lines, filters & other engine components. The micro organisms live in water present in the fuel and feed off the fuel itself. The more water in the fuel the more these micro organisms grow. Fuel polishing circulates the fuel through large commercial filters and in some cases centrifuges to remove the water and the sludge from your tanks. Other wise you would be changing your installed filter elements numerous times at a great cost.

Jarrett Bay Hull #43 – Whoo Dat

Jarrett Bay’s 43rd installment, originally “Bench Mark,” is now proudly owned by Keith Richardson – a Louisiana native who has appropriately renamed her “Whoo Dat” referencing his die-hard New Orleans Saints fandom.

Before heading to her new home in Louisiana, “Whoo Dat” will be dressed out in a new coat of Alexseal, along with a new helm pod station, covering boards, basic engine room maintenance, some fiber glass touch-ups, and a beautiful new tower from our friends at Bausch American.

It’s always a privilege to see our boats return for a little love, and to share the experience with a proud, new Jarrett Bay owner. Welcome to the Family Keith!

I am just getting back home from taking the new Whoo Dat down to Stuart. The boat performed flawlessly! I never would have thought that we wouldn’t lose any speed after adding a full tower but we were making 34 knots at 1850 RPMs! On top of the speed, the way she handles and takes the seas is impressive to say the least. One of the driest boats I’ve ever been on as well. She is truly a work of art in every aspect.

I just wanted to let you know how pleased and impressed we were with your entire operation. From start to finish, everyone I encountered was nothing but polite and helpful. It was very refreshing working with a boat yard that went above and beyond in all aspects. It was very apparent that a great amount pride was taken in every detail of every project that was done to our boat. The projects were finished on schedule, on budget and most importantly the finished product was beyond expectations/satisfaction. Thank you again for everything and I look forward to you coming down to fish with us this summer out of Louisiana.

Performance Diesel Inc., the MAN Distributor for the Northeast and Gulf regions has purchased a facility in the Jarrett Bay Marine Park. The facility will be managed by Brian Ostrouski and is scheduled to be fully operational before Spring of 2012. The location will be a complete sales and service facility for the full line of products offered by Performance Diesel including MAN, ZF transmissions, Hyundai marine engines and Marine Diesel (DMax) engines.
