Beginning in the fall of 2011, Susan McCart and John Gudelsky’s Absolut Joy, a 59′ Ritchie Howell previously known as Press Time, made its way to the Jarrett Bay service yard for an extensive winter makeover. While here, our service team executed a great deal of basic mechanical upgrades, along with some necessary structural repairs and reconstruction, while trying to maintain her original builder’s intentions.
Mechanically, we were able to remedy some standard maintenance issues in her engine room and beyond, including upgrading wiring to ABYC standards, sound barrier installation and upgraded fire suppression. Our neighbors at Gregory Poole Marine Power also performed thorough engine inspections and we performed upgrades and re-positioning of a number of systems including exhaust, fuel system, batteries and chargers, and all water systems (raw, fresh and gray). We also performed a fuel polishing service, troubleshot some leaks in the oil and genset fuel systems, and rebuilt both upper and lower helm stations.
Structurally, we made hull modifications and fiberglass repairs for improved hull performance and repainted the entire exterior – the hull with John’s signature color blue.

We stayed at your facility 12/13/11. We had problems with boat, channel, you name it, but Bill helped us from 3 pm till after 5 pm getting us settled in. I have owned restaurants since 1989 and really am thankful for Bill’s patience and demeanor, definitely made our bad day good. Just thought you should know plus he hooked us up with the dominos connection so we didn’t have to cook.
Great job thanks again,
Mike Arnoldy

We have received alot of feedback from customers throughout the hurricane Irene haul out process. Read on for their testimonials:
Before The Storm
August 25th
Today I delivered Bay Spice to Jarrett Bay for a haul out. From the 2 young men on the dock, to the travel lift operators, to the crews putting up jack stands, everyone was very polite with a positive attitude, and very effective in getting the boat securely in place. I am sure the owner of Bay Spice will be very satisfied with the treatment and preparation your team provides. I am sure the put-in will go just as smoothly.
We would also like to commend Jarrett Bay for the excellent commentary on the weather situation – it has been better than we can get on The Weather Channel.
Great operation you have!

Here is a testimonial from an owner of a 2006 45’ Cruisers Yacht equipped with 370 Volvo diesel engines. We installed wedges and modified the trim tabs and had drastic improvements to the vessels performance.
Its speed, RPM, fuel are all much better. I was traveling 21 knots on nuese into head and beam 10 knots wind burning only 32 gph with full fuel, water and 8 souls aboard.
Still had another 3000 rpm on the motors as well. Previously same rpm with sea and load similar would have given 15 knots if lucky and 35+ gph and full tab.

The following is a compilation of the numerous responses and feedback we received on the 2011 Hatteras Owners School hosted by Jarrett Bay Boatworks.
Hi Roger, Well, where do I start? I guess an old saying sums it up best after having had four Hatteras’ – “The more one learns, the more one realizes he does not know”! This is how I felt after the first ten minutes of your school on Monday morning – April 11th. I knew I was going to learn from a professional and from a man with years of experience (37+). Thank you for an EXCELLENT course, being such a patient and great instructor, and making we students feel at ease around such a knowledgeable person.

I would like to thank you for the great service that we received when we called for help this morning. Your sales shop representative, Bill, immediately welcomed us to your docks and immediately got us tied up near your travel lift. Bill then turned us over to Jeff and Kendra who listened to our concerns with our exhaust system which was leaking water and exhaust gases in our engine compartment. Jeff sent Roy, a subcontract technician, to our boat and quickly scoped out our problem and the best meter of repair. Jeff had the travel lift team energized and we were hauled so Roy could make the repairs to our engine and thru hull connection. Meanwhile Bill made my wife and I welcome with coffee and sweet rolls while we waited. By late afternoon our boat was again seaworthy and we were able to dock up until we resume our cruise in the morning. Kendra and Jeff presented us with a fair bill for your team’s work. Jarrett Bay Boatworks represents the finest in quality, service and cost. I ask you to thank your entire service and kind support at a time of need.

The Yankee Spirit, an 80’ Lydia boat designed for commercial purposes, arrived at Jarrett Bay on May 21st, 2010. The Yankee Spirit is owned by Mr. Howard and Jacqueline Dubinett of Colts Neck, New Jersey. The new name upon departure will be True Love. The Dubinetts explained that they have a very special group of friends that love to fish and socialize together and that their current 53’ Viking Yacht did not have enough room to allow them to fish together as they would like. The Yankee Spirit was previously a whale watching vessel home ported in Gloucester, MA. Jeff Fulcher, Jarrett Bay’s Service Manager flew to Boston on March 26th, 2010 to review the scope of work and provide an estimate for the refit to be accomplished. We were extremely happy to receive the job and be able to work with the owners on their dream boat. Work commenced on May 24th, 2010.

Jeff and Kendra,
I wanted to make sure you knew that both the owner and broker of Andy M were extremely impressed with the professionalism and knowledge of your Travelift crew today. The owner said this is the easiest haul he has ever had with the boat and he felt the crew handled her extremely well. John Nelson, the broker, who has hauled many boats here, says that this is the best crew he’s seen.
Just wanted to pass along to you the job well done. Have a great day.
