This post is from the Occhio blog, Waste Knot Cover Shot – all content & photos courtesy of Marc Montocchio.
I’ve had this idea to shoot a moving boat from the bow point of view for more than 10 years since seeing a graphite boom used to shoot similar angles in commercial car photography. If during that period of time I had tried to force the shot with less than perfect gear, crew and most of all boat it would have fallen flat. The last two years since we started Occhio I have found myself in the orbit of an incredible bunch of people that have allowed me access to opportunities to bring it all together. One of the biggest changes was moving to Eastern North Carolina and being surrounded by some of the most beautiful sport fishing yachts in the world, some built as close as a few miles from my gallery. Although a very long way from my birth place of South Africa, I’m proud to call Morehead City my adopted home.

For me the day was fantastic even with out a hook up. The Waste Knot is an incredible environment from which to fish. It’s not just the molded teak, fine finishes, and almost 4000 HP. Jarrett Bay has combined muscle and beauty into a single, organic fishing entity.

Hull #53 – 44’ Express
This bare hull is currently available for purchase. The previous owner traded up to hull #55 to build the 64’ Sportfisherman. Experience the performance of a total sportfishing machine with this 44’ dream. All of the essentials without all of the headaches: economical operation, durable finish, smooth & quiet ride and classic Carolina style & performance.
Hull #54 – 67’ Waste Knot
Tower work on this magnificent beast is essentially complete. Curtains are being constructed, and the bridge seat cushions are built and ready to install. The final rigging is taking place now. The salon parts are all out of the varnish shop and ready for installation. As soon as they are installed, the granite that has already been cut will be mounted. Once the granite is in, we will splash the boat and put fuel & water on to mark the waterline. After putting her back on the hill, we’ll paint the bottom and boot stripe. Next up will be trimming out the headliner and carpet. After that, it will be performance testing and she’ll be ready to deliver mid-December. The owners have put generations of fishing know-how into her design and functionality. Without a doubt, you can expect to see her blazing the tournament trail on the East Coast and beyond next year.
