Q & A: How to Maintain Great Teak on Your Boat

I own an Ocean Yacht Sportfish and would like to refinish my teak deck. The condition of the boards are fairly rough, but nothing some sanding can’t fix. I’ve done some research on the internet about after treatment on teak and have seen a lot of different opinions on what to do. Leave it alone, lightly sand it every year, use oil, use a sealer, etc. I’ve always admired Jarrett Bay’s craftsmanship and one day hope to own a Jarrett Bay, so i figured I’d ask the pros. What do you guys put on your teak covering boards and decks? I forgot to mention that I use an aft cover on the boat while not in use to help minimize the UV damage. Thanks,

Jarrett Bay Service Facility Project Updates & Certifications

The spring and summer season is off to a record breaking start with many great additions &  improvements to our full-service Marine Industrial Park (MIP). Bausch American & IMS’ 30,000 sq. ft. building is complete and already very busy with indoor tower & electronics installs. Powell Brothers Maintenance opened their commercial yard at the MIP, allowing us to segregate the commercial vessel traffic to a separate lot for maintenance – giving us more room to work on & store recreational vessels. The addition of Moores Marine, a major restoration and repairer outfit specializing in Trumpy’s and other “Golden Era” yachts, will bring even more business to our facility.

We completed dredging of the basin recently giving us approximatley 10’ at MLW in our basin. We have recently gained permitting to install an additional dockage space on the ICW, as well as a 150’ floating T-dock to be located parallel to our shoreline on the ICW south side of the basin. Recent Projects – Spring 2005

The winter season set another record for the yard with the number of returning perennial favorites and new customers serviced, all coming to take advantage of our superior service and facilities.

The 57′ Scarborough Due Course from New Jersey came in for varnish, paint and other repairs. Virginia’s 56′ Core Sounder Southern Exposure is in the yard for some TLC. The 53′ Ocean Ali L out of Charleston is in once again for some custom Carolina treatment to the salon windows, and a new DeAngelo Marine exhaust system. Another South Carolina boat, the Fetchin, returned once again for some custom work on their New England style lobster boat.

The 84′ M/Y Sirena, haling from Massachusetts, is in for a complete bottom repair job, painting, and a new exhaust system. The 60′ Hatteras M/Y Family Matters, came in for some highly customized work. We hinged their radar arch to allow it to be lowered and raised by power. We also installed a new bow thruster. As a result, she can now conveniently achieve a suitable vertical clearance to make the voyage to the Great Lakes hassle-free. Continue reading “Recent Projects – Spring 2005″ »
