In this final leg of a 12 part series, Randy Ramsey reflects on the most influential people to contribute to Jarrett Bay’s success over the last 25 years:
For the past 11 months it has been a pleasure to share some of the stories about our first 25 years and the many people who have helped to mold the company and contributed to our success. For the 12th and final installment of the series I think it would be appropriate to write about what started all the excitement 25 years ago: hull number 1 “Sensation”.
Since it’s debut in Fort Lauderdale, there’s been a lot of buzz about Release Marines “Battle Saddle”. This hydrid fighting chair / leaning post was actually developed directly with NASCAR driver Jeff Burton and his Jarrett Bay 46′
We recently helped finish the 2011 52′ Shearline, Revival. We had a hand in finishing all of the cabinets and interior veneer and installed the mechanical and electrical systems throughout the entire boat. While at Jarrett Bay we installed all the appliances, whisper wall headliner, entry doors and cabinet dividers. The soft goods package and interior design were completed here with collaboration with Scott Williams of “The Red Rickshaw”.
The official results are in, and we’re proud to announce that the Alliance Fishing Team has won the 2011 North Carolina Governor’s Cup Series aboard the 58′ Gypsy Angler and the Galot 3. The team totaled 3200 points this season, with a lead of 772 points over 2nd place! This marks the 2nd consecutive year that a Jarrett Bay boat has won the Govenor’s Cup – last years champion being the 67′ Waste Knot.
Based out of Morehead City, the “DU” tournament featured 47 participating boats, 8 of which were Jarrett Bays. Builder’s Choice, Sensation, Chainlink, Gypsy Angler (and of course Bill Collector) all got some billfish to their transom during the two days of fishing!
The prestigious Bermuda Triple Crown started in early July and one of the several Jarrett Bay boats to make the crossing, the 61′ Rameseas, saw a lot of great fishing.
Captained by Jon Huff and fished by Wells family (owners), Rameseas placed just out of the money (4th) in the Bermuda Billfish Blast after releasing two blue marlin and a white. To wrap up their 2011 Bermuda trip, the team finished 6th in the Seahorse Anglers Club Billfish Tournament after Terry Wells boated this 544 lb. blue marlin on the final day of fishing. The fight was 192 minutes!
Contango fished the Wilmington Canyon, Saturday July 23rd, 2011. Conditions were sporty in the morning, but we ended up with three white marlin for the day. The real highlight though was having Brady Lybarger onboard along with his “dredge cam”. He got this awesome underwater footage of yellowfin tuna and white marlin chasing the dredge and even jumped in for one of our white releases.
In the Barta Boys & Girls Club Billfish Tournament this past weekend, the 51′ Jarrett Bay Bill Collector won 2nd overall and Jr. Angler Hunter Draughon (owner Stephen Draughon’s son) placed 1st in both the Billfish & Wahoo categories.
The 55′ Builder’s Choice was the 1st place private boat and their angler Elizabeth Blythe placed 2nd to Hunter Draughon in Jr. Billfish division.
Several junior anglers aboard the Jarrett Bay boats, Fishing Partner & Marlin Fever also placed in the inshore tournament – awesome work boys & girls!
The 54′ Jarrett Bay, Chainlink recently took home first place in the 2011 Cape Fear Blue Marlin Tournament with 7 white marlin released in two days. The Cape Fear tournament is run out of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina and this year’s fleet consisted of 18 of the top billfishing teams in the region.
This 3-day event features two fishing days and one lay day, but it always seems to provide plenty of action – and this year Day 2 was when the fireworks took place. After each boat made one release on Day 1, both the Chainlink & Trophy exploded with action Friday morning. Chainlink was the first on the board for the day with a dual white marlin release at 8:51 with Trophy following suit with a white release an hour later. In this 12 part series, Randy Ramsey reflects each month on the most influential people to contribute to Jarrett Bay’s success over the last 25 years.
Soon after we relocated Jarrett Bay Boatworks from the original location in Williston to Marshallberg, NC, our company began expanding faster than we could imagine. We had four boats under construction and started the service and repair yard. With the expansion came a host of problems that had never occurred to me, like book keeping, human resources and inventory management to name a few. After all, our company was founded by a dream to build a better boat, so the business side of the company was an afterthought in the early years. In March of 1993, we decided to hire a person to manage our office.
