Last week, Tiffany and I were invited to fish with the Wall family aboard their 70’ Jarrett Bay, Ravaganza in the 10th Annual Custom Shootout. The Custom Shootout has become one of the premier billfish events with teams from all over the east coast gathering in the Bahamas to raise money for charity. It is unique that boats are open for visitors to come aboard and many of the builders attend the event. This year Roy Merritt, Richie Scheffer, Dominic Lacombe, Daniel Spencer, Jimmy Floyd, Michael Rybovich, John Vance, John Bayliss, John Whiticar and myself were there sharing laughs and stories about boats and fishing.

Bench Mark wins 2010 Megadock Tournament
Jarrett Bay hull 55, Bench Mark, captained by Bobby Garmany, won the HMY-Viking MegaDock Billfish Tournament this past weekend. Bench Mark fished the first two days and went up early with 5 sailfish releases on Day 1. First thing on day 2 the crew released a blue marlin to help outpace the two blues caught on the Reel Passion later in the day. The results would hold through day 3.
Also finishing on the leaderboard was the 58′ Jarrett Bay / Core Sound, Jabez (4th overall). They released 1 blue marlin & 3 sailfish for a total of 1200 points, which technically was a tie for third with the vessel Secotan.
Bench Mark is the “youngest” in the Jarrett Bay fleet, a beautiful 64 footer finished and splashed in December of last year. The crew’s win marked the second consecutive year a Jarrett Bay boat won the HMY-Viking MegaDock tournament – in 2009, the 55′ Micabe took home top honors and also won the entire South Carolina Governor’s Cup Series.
In other Jarrett Bay related tournament news from the same weekend, the 54′ Chainlink won the meat fish category in the Hatteras Grand Slam.

Racing Back to the Docks During Tournament Fishing
In four days of tournament fishing in SC we have been 1st back to the docks 3 times and 2nd once! Get Tate to tell you about our “NASCAR” race last Saturday to almost run down Rookie IV who had an 8 mile head start and hold off Major Motion who had it to the pins and were cutting on the outside of red markers to try and get ahead! We had a blast for 9 miles toying with those guys from inside the jetties to the docks and they were dumping water and ice try and catch us! Bobby said he still had about 200 turns of sweet feed to feed the ponies when we were running 40.9 knots… it was the talk of the docks for the evening! We are turning some heads and getting a lot of foot traffic!
