8:22pm August 29, 2010 – Beaufort, NC:
The latest NOAA projection is predicting the west side of the possible track to skirt Cape Lookout. This is still a Cat 1 hurricane. There is a 5-10% probability of us receiving Hurricane Force winds. It does appear to have sped up. It is now to arrive somewhere off our coast Thursday afternoon.
This storm is still very unpredictable so we will advise caution. Better safe than sorry. We will be able to haul vessels Monday afternoon if any of you want to get a jump on hauling. Please contact Kendra at 252-728-2690 x232. Kendra will begin receiving calls for appointments at 9am Monday 30 August. 50 and 75 ton lifts will start at 1pm and be scheduled for every 30 minutes. The 200 ton lift is already busy Monday, but call anyway and we will do our best to start some 200 ton lifts if possible. If not, we will start the 200 ton lift at 0730 am Tuesday morning. JBBW is monitoring Tropical Storm Erika closely the remainder of this week and will make a decision based on the NOAA 5 day projection later in the week as to if we will activate our Hurricane haul out plan. We encourage our hurricane haul out customers to monitor this storm closely in case it becomes a hurricane and threatens our area early next week.

Yard Manager

Tropical Storm Danny is developing and is expected to be off our area Friday evening and moving out Saturday morning. The National Hurricane center doesn’t predict the storm will develop into a hurricane at this time, however we will be available Thursday and Friday to haul any of our hurricane contract customers that request hauling in anticipation of possible hurricane force winds. All policy holders should contact our offices at (252) 728-2690 X232 to schedule an appointment.

Jarrett Bay Boatworks has commenced preparations in anticipation for Hurricane Bill possibly impacting our area in the next 7 days. We are preparing the yard, inventorying stands, blocks etc. and servicing the lifts. We are monitoring the predicted path of Bill and will make a decision later this week. We need a minimum of 3 days to haul all vessels with Hurricane contracts but would like to have 4 days if possible. We will commence hauling once the NOAA projection predicts hurricane force winds in our area within 5 days. Continue reading “Hurricane Bill” »

On Tuesday 2 September we commenced haul out in accordance with our written hurricane policy based on the NOAA projection of possible hurricane force winds impacting our area within 5 days. We had 59 vessels on our yard for service work or storage at the time of implementing the hurricane haul outs. We hauled 129 vessels from 10am Tuesday 03 September, 2008 to 5:30pm Friday 05 September, 2008.
A few vessels received minor wind damage to curtains and exterior soft goods. Our ground crew commenced pressure washing vessels at 9:30am Saturday morning to facilitate bottom painting the following morning. Carmelo and Dalia braved the elements of 40 plus kt winds and rain on Saturday morning and had washed 18 vessels by 4:30pm on Sunday. Kudos to Carmelo and Dalia.
This was the smoothest hurricane haul out event in the 10 year history of JBBW inc. at the Industrial Park. Keith Tosto, Brian Wade, Kendra Morris, Tate Lawrence and the entire crew did an excellent job to make this all happen. We set a new record by hauling 129 vessels in four days. We have the highest total of vessels on the yard than ever before. We expended approximately 1,200 labor hours and purchased 330 new boat stands to accommodate all of our customers. We know our capabilities and we will offer more haul out spots for the 2009 hurricane season.
I would like to thank all of our customers for their patience and understanding during a very hectic and emotional event.
