The following is a compilation of the numerous responses and feedback we received on the 2011 Hatteras Owners School hosted by Jarrett Bay Boatworks.

Hi Roger,  Well, where do I start?  I guess an old saying sums it up best after having had four Hatteras’ – “The more one learns, the more one realizes he does not know”!  This is how I felt after the first ten minutes of your school on Monday morning – April 11th.  I knew I was going to learn from a professional and from a man with years of experience (37+).  Thank you for an EXCELLENT course, being such a patient and great instructor, and making we students feel at ease around such a knowledgeable person.

Although this was your third class, your preparation was so evident to me – breakfast, coffee, drinks, snacks, the Hatteras Factory Tour, and the dinner you hosted Tuesday evening were ALL greatly appreciated.  The vendors you brought in were tops, thank you, Roger!  I know there are alot of great boats out there, but when I go out with my family I want a Hatteras under me.  I guess I,m like an old mule with blinders on!!  When I find something I love, I stay with it.  Again, Roger. THANK YOU and your staff for a terrific 2 1/2 days crammed full of great useful information.  I look forward to many years of “picking your brain” about Hatteras’.

P.S.  Your personal experiences and stories were fabulous and made the class even better!

Your student,

Bill Bartholomew

Hello Roger,

Wanted to give some feedback on our impressions of the course.

Haidi and I felt it was very worthwhile and good value. The presentations were informative and useful but the question and answer and opinions/comments of the participants was where the real meat of information exchange and gain was with your answers! The dinner you organized after Hatteras production facility visit was particularly enjoyable and we both sincerely hope next year you do the course again and we can all dine there!

I would like hear from you soonest able about my question for you to visit “My Paradise” Lighthouse Pint FL and give your opinion on the wiring and my concern to learn how good/bad it actually is. Once there would also like you to look her over carefully and give your opinion on how she is and if a good job has been done. I am considering this will be the boat that stays with me for the rest of my life if it is good and worthy. My personal preference had been for a Cabo but fate ensured “My Paradise” came across my path.

Below are, again, my contact details and I await your news. For your information I also sent a message to Randy with a copy to you, with unsolicited feedback and comments about the school.

It was a great pleasure meeting you and we both look forward, with happiness, to meeting up again.

Kind regards

Nicky & Haidi

Hello Randy,

This is unsolicited feedback about the course. Felt it was excellent value and beneficial for all who attended (students/ vendors/organizers and Jarrett Bay Industrial park). In other words a win win situation for all.

What particularly impressed me is Jarrett Bay Industrial park. The vision/determination/dedication/perseverance and sheer good luck needed to arrive at where the project actually is, is very impressive. It shows love/passion for the project and tremendous foresight- congratulations!!!

From a Jarrett Bay perspective Roger is- in addition to being a walking/talking encyclopedia for Hatteras- a “magnet” and we already informed him wish sign up for next year’s course.  That he is a good for Jarrett Bay Boatworks is equally undoubted and have already asked for quotations for various things. This message is just to give you direct feedback from customers as I feel such is an invaluable tool to gauge customer appreciation and sense how they feel. This course is fantastic and Roger is the reason and guarantees the result. The location and facilities are added “cream on the already excellent cake”.

Will arrive next year and would like to meet, anyone with passion/dedication/determination/perseverance is someone who shares what I like and admire. Wishing you continued success.

Regards

Nicky Pappadakis

24 of us attended class this week in Beaufort NC at the Gregory Poole CAT facility in the Jarrett Bay industrial park. It is pretty incredible that Roger Wetherington of Jarrett Bay(or any one person) with the help of Kendra, could pull off organizing 3 days of material, vendor visits, meals and a tour of the Hatteras plant (including Cabo now). All of us probably learned at least one or 2 small items that alone made the trip worthwhile. For example, my wife with long hair will greatly appreciate that I can raise the house water pressure to 60 psi from the current factory setting of 38psi. The Jarrett Bay folks were very generous to lend us Roger for the 3 days, plus the preparation time necessary prior to class. A big Thank You to Steve at SAMs for his support with this forum and providing the knowledge and many parts we need to keep our boats happy. It is also pretty incredible to see what capabilities Jarrett Bay has along with the other tenants in the park. If you need a 80′ MY hauled, re-powered with mains and gens, without touching your interior designers new floor in the salon…NO PROBLEM. They had one on the yard with a hole in the side, demo the interior walls, extend a crane , swap the 4 motors, sold the gens to 2 of our classmates, sold the motors to be exported to South America. re-glass, repaint from the gunnel down. No one would ever know. Truly capable of work on an international level. They are not cheap, and don’t apologize for that. Vendor thanks have to begin with Petit who gave one of us a free bottom job at Jarrett Bay. lunches from west marine/port supply, interlux and seahawk.

Here are some of my thoughts, and please share yours for some ideas to possibly improve the class for future attendees:
Include vendor presentations from some of the most popular vintage Hatteras upgrades. Maybe have a poll on the forum to decide on those vendors to invite.
my additional list might include SAMs, outback, raritan, ideal, tank tender and anyone with 32 volt solutions to daily problems.
Unless time allows, exclude vendors that do not offer retrofit solutions for our boat systems, or that anyone has tried.

It was great to meet fellow owners, several of whom are very active on the HOF sharing their extensive knowledge. Our class was spread from the Caymans to Nova Scotia. Thanks, and please share your thoughts.

Jeff,

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for hosting the recent Vintage Hatteras Owners School at Jarrett Bay.

As a licensed captain and shipwright with nearly thirty years experience including a couple decades working in as well as owning a small custom boatyard, I have to admit being somewhat skeptical about how much I expected to learn at the course.

I am pleased to say the course exceeded my expectations in every way. The quality of the programing, the relevance of the discussions and above all, the experience of Roger W. our course conductor made this a truly enjoyable and worthwhile use of my time.

As a Captain, not an owner, I have to justify not only my expense but also my time. I’ll have no difficulty justifying this one to my owner.

“Wired” our ’81 64MY (stretched to 70 by Hatteras) will be passing Jarrett Bay in June on our migration North. Hopefully our schedule will allow time to stop and get a couple items looked after. I have a list and after this week it is obvious that Jarrett Bay has the skills and knowledge to “get er done”.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

I attended the HAT School this week and couldn’t agree more with Mal’s assessment. The information provided was pertinent and practical.

Roger Wetherington and the Jarrett Bay Team are extremely knowledgeable about all the vintage HATS, and actually was involved in the construction of most of them. Roger is an excellent instructor and facilitator. He understands all the good and less than good points about the boats, and is very candid in his assessments. The factory tour helped me to better understand the pride and commitment to quality that Hatteras puts into every boat. Having the opportunity to talk with other HAT owners, some with boats like mine, was another great learning experience.

Thanks to Jarrett Bay for sponsoring the HAT School, to Gregory Poole CAT for providing the conference facility and to all the vendors for their participation. I would highly recommend the school to any HAT owner, new or experienced, and hope Jarrett Bay will continue to support vintage Hatteras owners by continuing to sponsor this valuable learning experience.

Terrific overviews from Mal and Bill. I too benefited from the sessions and social time. Wonderful opportunity to meet fellow Hatteras owners and discuss our common love/challenges.

Many Thanks to Roger, Kendra, Vickie, CD and all that put forth a tremendous effort in pulling off a a wonderful 3 days.

Randy:I was an attendee at the Vintage Hatteras Owner’s School last week and want to take this opportunity to thank you for sponsoring this great workshop. Roger Wetherington did a magnificent job identifying and addressing the issues that common to all of us who love the older HATs. Kendra made the registration process easy, and provided great support with the venue and hotel accomodations.

I can appreciate how valuable the time of Roger and the rest of the staff who particpated must be. I hope you will be rewarded with some yard work from the partcipants and those to whom you will be recommended. I had a great experience in your yard a few years ago when I brought my 1973 43′ Hatteras TUCANDU in for some repairs while in the middle of doing the Great Loop. I shared that experience with the group. I’ll also be bringing my new boat to you for some bottom work this year or next.

Thanks again for your support of Hatteras owners.

Hi Randy,  I have not had the pleasure of meeting you yet, but I wanted to write to you about the two items in the Subject line.  I realize you are busy, BUT PLEASE take time to read this E-mail.  My boat was in your yard for 2 and 1/2 weeks last month and a several days in May.  My Project Manager was Keith and Bob Ross looks after my boat for me.  I was very impressed with the way I was treated from the travel lift operator to Kendra at check-out time.  Your yard is indeed a place to be proud of.  The personnel were highly knowledgeable, personable, and professional.  Thank you for a good experience and I hope to be back next year.  Also, thank you for the discounts I received in these days of high prices.  NOW, about the Hatteras School taught by Roger.  Roger is absolutely TOPS!  His knowledge, care about the Hatteras problems one may have, his teaching and instructing ability, and his personal experiences and stories were absolutely priceless!!  This is a man you should be extremely proud to have on your staff at Jarrett Bay.  He answered EVERY question asked and gave comments if necessary.  The organization behind the school took many days of preparation on his part and I am sure others at Jarrett Bay.  From the great “classroom” at Gregory Poole to the Hatteras Factory tour and dinner afterwards, all the students were so appreciative.  The vendors were very informative and helpful to all of us.  Thank you for allowing Roger to spend 2 and 1/2 days of his time with us and away from his normal daily routine.  He is one of the finest assets in your organization.  For a job greatly done, I salute and laud Roger Wetherington!!!

Sincerely,

Bill Bartholomew – RICOCHET – 55 Hatteras Convertible
