Jarrett Bay Boatworks founder recognized for his longstanding contributions to education, workforce development, and the Carteret County community.
A graduate of West Carteret High School and Carteret Community College, Randy founded Jarrett Bay Boatworks in 1986, building what would become one of the world’s most respected custom sportfishing boat builders. Throughout his career, his dedication to the community has extended well beyond the marine industry.

Investing in Education and Opportunity
Randy has been a longtime supporter of Carteret Community College, helping strengthen opportunities for students through workforce development initiatives, internships, and apprenticeships in the marine industry. His commitment to higher education has also included service on the North Carolina State University Board of Trustees and as chairman of the University of North Carolina System’s Board of Governors from 2019 to 2024.
Closer to home, Randy’s involvement with the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament helped secure a $200,000 contribution to establish the Big Rock Teaching Fellows Scholarship through the Carteret Education Foundation. The program supports local students pursuing careers in education, with the goal of bringing talented teachers back to Carteret County classrooms.
As Jarrett Bay celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026, this recognition reflects a philosophy that has remained central to Randy’s leadership: success is measured not only by what you build, but by the opportunities you create for others.
The Alumni Impact Award will be presented at the Carteret Education Foundation’s 2026 Education Gala on November 14 at Merrell Estate & Gardens in Indian Beach, North Carolina.
The entire Jarrett Bay family congratulates Randy on this well-deserved recognition and his continued dedication to strengthening the community we are proud to call home.
