The 55′ Micabe, (Jarrett Bay hull #42) and owner Mike Larrow enjoyed a weekend in the winnings at the 2012 Buccaneer Cup Sailfish Tournament in Palm Beach, FL this past weekend. The Micabe crew placed 2nd in the 2 day Florida Fish for Life tournament and took home 3rd overall in the Buccaneer Cup with 23 sailfish released over 3 days. Sandman & Weez in the Keys took 1st and 2nd respectively.

In the Barta Boys & Girls Club Billfish Tournament this past weekend, the 51′ Jarrett Bay Bill Collector won 2nd overall and Jr. Angler Hunter Draughon (owner Stephen Draughon’s son) placed 1st in both the Billfish & Wahoo categories.
The 55′ Builder’s Choice was the 1st place private boat and their angler Elizabeth Blythe placed 2nd to Hunter Draughon in Jr. Billfish division.
Several junior anglers aboard the Jarrett Bay boats, Fishing Partner & Marlin Fever also placed in the inshore tournament – awesome work boys & girls!

The 55′ Jarrett Bay Builders Choice was in our yard last month for a complete mezzanine retrofit and other upgrades prior to tournament season. Mezzanine cockpit refits are becoming a popular project on sportfish boats that were built with a conventional standing-room-only cockpit layout.
The basic process is to remove or cut-down old cabinetry and ice boxes for the addition of a mezzanine level and seating. This upgrade often provides just as much (or more) space for coolers or freezers below the sofas and steps, and in this case, even allowed for a larger engine room entrance – all without requiring any changes to the salon door placement. The 55′ Jarrett Bay, Weldor’s Ark took home first place in the overall billfish category in last weekend’s King Mackerel Bluewater Tournament hosted by the Swansboro Rotary Club. Another 55′ Jarrett Bay, Builder’s Choice placed third, and several other Jarrett Bay’s weren’t far behind, including Chainlink in 4th & Rameseas in 6th.
Congrats to anglers John Roberts, Harris Huddle and all the participants!

Tournament Coordinator Carole Willis of the NC Marine Fisheries Division reports official results for the 2010 Carolinas’ Shootout. The 55′ Jarrett Bay, Micabe, released 2 whites and 3 sailfish to capture 3rd place overall.
North Carolina finished with 2450 points to South Carolina’s 1375 points (125 pts for whites, sails and spears and 400 pts for blues).
Eight Boats caught 12 whites, 9 sails and 3 blues in two days of fishing! With the NC boats releasing 6 white marlin, 4 sailfish, and 3 blue marlin; while SC boats released 6 white marlin and 5 sailfish. Boats ran North and fished up off of Oregon Inlet – NE wind 10 knots with SE swell for Friday and NE wind 15 knots plus with 7 to 8 ft swell from Danielle on Saturday. The Shootout alternates between NC and SC every year with the top Gov Cup boats from each state competing as a team for the Shootout Trophy. Mike Larrow & his 55′ Jarrett Bay Micabe team are all smiles collecting their Outstanding Billfish Boat award at the SC Governor’s Cup banquet this weekend. This is just one of the four awards presented to Jarrett Bay boats for the ’09 SCGC season…Congrats also to Steven Davis’ 58′ Jarrett Bay Benchmark team, and… to Terry Wells’ 54′ Jarrett Bay team Rameseas for making us so proud!

This past week, Mike Larrow and crew won the MegaDock Billfish Tournament and South Carolina Governor’s Cup aboard his 55′ Jarrett Bay, Micabe. The team released 9 sailfish over 2 days to take the championship – Congrats to Mike and every one involved!
